Happy Caturday
On this fine Caturday, I'm going to be posting something a little different than usual. I'm going to be talking about my personal idol, Siglinda Scarpa, and the amazing work that she does.
Not only is Ms. Scarpa a wonderfully talented sculptor and potter, she also founded the Goathouse Refuge, a no kill animal sanctuary that houses over three hundred cats (and also dogs, geese, goats, and other animals) while they await adoption.
Personally, Ms. Scarpa has over forty cats and she still able to remember every cat's name and story. When asked about how her love of cats began she stated that when she was a child, her father gave her a tiny gray tabby and she goes on further to say, "I held that kitty with such love. He changed my loneliness. I could understand everything he wanted and he could understand me."
Being an artist and an animal lover myself, I feel truly inspired by Ms. Scarpa's work. I'm making it a personal goal of mine to make the long trip to Pittsboro, North Carolina to volunteer. Also, the refuge depends on volunteers and donations so if you're able to offer any kind of help I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated!
Happy Caturday, everyone!
