Personal Thrifting Finds
Although Chianne and I thrift primarily for the shop nowadays, I certainly haven't been able to resist buying a few pieces for myself over the past few years. Below are some of my favorite things I've ever thrifted. (Quick advance apology: this was a rather impromptu post, and I ended up using my iPhone to snap the photos. My apologies for poor quality!)
The Map: I thrifted this old map from one of our usual flea market haunts about a year ago. It came framed, slightly aged and complete with pins in certain locations and penned-in paths of travel. I love that it's not new and blank--as I've said before, it has so much more character this way. It's hanging on my bedroom wall at the moment, and I really love looking at it and planning my own potential travel paths.
The Bee Box: I think this was one of the first items I ever thrifted, and one I'd like to keep forever. It has a beautiful golden bee on the front; I love bees. One of my favorite aspects of the box is, as you can see above, the secret compartment underneath the main part. I store jewelry and trinkets in this box currently and keep it on my dresser, but I'd love to find a better location for it where I can really display it better.
The Clothes: First things first, this is a terrible photo. (Uh, I do not recommend iPhone flash.) But I did want to include it to show that you can also find some really nice and even trendy clothes when you're out thrifting, like this maroon cardigan I got a few years ago at Goodwill. The scarf is one that I get a lot of compliments on--I love the colors and pattern. I bought it for less than $5 at a flea market.
The Jewelry & Trinkets: I almost always stumble upon some weird, cool trinkets or jewelry items when I'm out thrifting, and I usually end up buying them because they sell for cheap. I like buying these sorts of things as gifts for people--it's more thoughtful and creative than a department store gift.
What are your favorite things to buy at thrift shops? Have you found any super rare thrift store gold? Let us know!
Disclaimer: I don't think anyone will take this as bragging, but to be safe, I want to ensure you that this post was merely a representation of all the good stuff that can come out of thrifting and shopping secondhand, and not in any way boastful.
