The Tiny House Movement

In the world we live in today, most people's ideal dream home would be large, extravagant, and ultimately much more than they need. But what if I told you that there are a group of people who are going against this notion and developing smarter, smaller (a lot smaller), and more sustainable homes? Well guess what? This is actually happening!

This is my absolute favorite example of a tiny house! This one was made by the wonderful lady pictured, Michelle de la Vega! She's a visual and performance artist that turned her 250 square foot garage into a home for $32,000!

There are a number of companies (Tumbleweed Tiny House Company, Mini Home, and Micro Compact Home to name a few) that build pre-made tiny homes that come with a vast selection of features including but not limited to solar panel energy, compost toilets, fireplaces that provide sufficient heat for temperatures of minus thirty five degrees, and not to mention all the eco-friendly material used in building these beautiful little homes.

However, if you're a crazy DIY-er like me, there are step by step plans all over the internet that can aid you in creating your very own, original tiny dream home (I found a few neat ones on Google, check them out: 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5)!

Here is another great example of a tiny home done by Jessica Helgerson!

There are so many benefits of owning a tiny home compared to a larger home such as affordability, better for the environment, and the designs and styles are so unique! So what do you think? Have I persuaded you to move into a tiny home or are you sticking with a more spacious living space? Feel free to share in the comments!

  2. I personally have too many clothes to ever be able to live in a smaller home, however, I appreciate them nonetheless! The examples you chose are so charming and sweet, and interestingly designed!

  3. That's crazy that you posted about this. My husband and I have been talking about these forever. And this morning, my boss and I were discussing it. I think it's such a great idea. Imagine how easy it would be to clean, too!

    1. That is an odd coincidence! I would absolutely love to have to do less cleaning!

  4. I love the idea of these! But I am (sadly) way too attached to my things. I need a HUGE kitchen to house everything.

    1. Well, if you ever change your mind, you should look further into the tiny house Jessica Helgerson made, her kitchen was quite large and it seems that there is a lot of storage space! xx

  5. I love these tiny houses - but I don't think I would ever be minimalist enough to live in one. It's not in my hoarder nature!

  6. I love small spaces like this. I love the ultra small multifunctional apartments as well - I think once you get used to it living in a smaller space is far easier! And less dusting. I hate dusting.

  7. Yes, the dream of an ideal home has changed, and continues to do so. I, personally, would want to experience dwelling in a large house and a tiny house. I’d like to see the pros and cons of both worlds. I’m sure each would teach me life-changing lessons. -->Concepcion
