Over the Weekend: Cats & Parties

I'm normally crazy busy on weekends, but this one was a much needed relaxed few days.
pretty pancakes / fancy appetizers / DIY flower garland / Poe being adorbs, as usual
The first three pictures were all part of the set up for Zoe's (remember her? she was supposed to be doing blog posts on here every week, but someone's slacking!) camping party. She invited four of her friends over and they had a pretty glamorous camp-out (I mean, look at that garland). My mom forced Chianne and I to set up some of the decorations, and I'm quite happy with how they turned out! We ended up spending the night along with the kids and even engaged in some good ol' hide and seek in outside in the dark. Sometimes it's nice to feel like a kid again.
The picture of Poe was just gratuitous--who doesn't like cat pics? On Friday, I went to the pet store with a few of my friends and tortured myself by looking at the little kittens for sale. I held one that had the prettiest, almost pink-colored coat and such cool, blue-green eyes. I was so devastated that I couldn't take it home!
I also had my art display case set up all week last week, which was really cool. I was so shocked at how many people came up to me and complimented it! I've always taken a pretty passive stance in terms of art, as in I like to look at it and appreciate it, but I've never been super confident in my own skills. It was a really cool experience to be able to do this, and also kind of eye-opening, because I'm actually considering minoring in 2D art, now.
A sneak peak at my art case--I'll do a full post over it soon!
Hope your Monday was awesome! What did you do over the weekend?

Follow Friday

It's been a while since we've shared some of our favorite blogs, and I am so ready to spill.
First and foremost, The Laughing Medusa, run by Sarah. I came across her blog due to a guest post of hers featured on In Between Idols (another great blog you should follow ASAP), and I have been addicted since! A "currently purple-haired writer and magazine editor from Ontario, Canada," she categorizes as a lifestyle blog, but it's not as run-of-the-mill as it may seem. Her photos are always so pretty (even when they're just from Instagram), her writing is thorough and natural, and she has great taste (and awesome tattoos, which is a bonus). Definitely one of my favorite recent discoveries!

Robot Feels is another I recently stumbled upon. The hilarious prodigy behind it, Brenna, is a self-proclaimed "perma-teenager" living in a little town in Arizona. Don't let her self-deprecation sway you from following: her blog is gold. Seriously, she's so funny and creative, and I'm not gonna lie, her blog name makes me giggle.

I've been following Deb at smitten kitchen for such a long time, and I have seriously never stopped loving it. Like, no doubt about it, Chianne is the baker of the two of us, but that doesn't stop me from salivating over Deb's recipes. I also looooove her writing--I would never expect to be entertained while reading a soup recipe, but trust me, she's good.
The Brownie Mosaic Cheesecake was one my mom made a few years ago, and it was seriously celestial. Celestial.

That's it for today! Have you read any of these awesome blogs? I wanna know! And also, leave recommendations below--I need new reading material!

Have a fantastic weekend, friends!

To Vine or Not to Vine?

Every time a new social media app or website comes out I always swear to myself that I'm never going to make one. So when I first heard of Vine I thought, "A six second video? What a waste of time, I'm definitely not getting one of those!" But a few weeks went by and I kept hearing about this video app the creators of Twitter came up with and the idea of having one of my own became more and more appealing.

Vine is like a mixture of Instagram, Snapchat, Gifs, and Twitter but better. After trying out Vine myself, I have to say I find it a lot more fun and entertaining than I expected. Out of all the apps I've tried, I'd say that Vine allows you to get the greatest sense of the people you follow and what their everyday lives are like without actually being there with them.

I just made my Vine a few days ago so I'm still trying to figure things out. But if you have one already or plan on making one feel free to follow me so I can check your Vine out, I love watching the incredible things people come up with!

Have you joined the Vine bandwagon or are you steering clear of this app?

Monday Loves

How was your weekend? Did you spend some koala-tea time with your mom? We did, but it was kind of disastrous (wind + hilltop picnic + cold = bad). I think I'm going to start doing a new thing every Monday where I just share some cool stuff with you guys...which is basically what I always do. Whatever, giving it an official name makes me feel better. Anyway, some things I'm loving this Monday:

This lavender tea looks delicious and perfect for summer (and easy to make).

These tattoos are so. freaking. gorgeous.

These awesome/tacky/wonderful pins that literally have all of my idols on them (and also the creepy twins from the Shining). [Anyone know the source for these? If so, please let me know--I want to buy some!]

Emily's easy, bohemian outfit is what I hope my summer uniform looks like.

And a few more loves:
Do you have any Monday Loves? Let me know!

Artist Appreciation: Chooo-san

Now, if you're an art geek like me, you know about surrealism and you've seen it done again and again. But in this post and through Chooo-san's crazily awesome work, you're going to experience surrealism like you've never experienced before!

At first, Chooo-san started off doodling amazingly realistic illustrations on her own body, like the ones pictured above. But as time went on, Chooo-san was able to turn her small hobby into a much larger project. Today she uses other's bodies as her canvas and with her talent and some acrylic paint she is able to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary!

To learn more about Chooo-san or to see more of her work, feel free visit her website

Have you heard of any other cool and upcoming artists, lately?

Current Playlist - May Jams

Hey, all! How's life? Things have been pretty crazy for me as of late; I've been drawing and painting like a madwoman because I've been given the opportunity to showcase my art from the past few years in a display case at my school, and I want to amp up my portfolio. I'm about to start a self portrait and I'm super nervous because I've actually never done one before...yikes. We'll see what happens I guess!
Anyway, I wanted to do a quick music post since we've never really discussed music on the blog. I know it's a pretty subjective thing, but I always love reading about other peoples' favorite music. The following list is the top 8 songs I've been replaying recently, compiled into a playlist called May Jams. Sidenote: does anyone even say "jams" anymore...?

Short synopsis time! (cue applause)
1. Best Coast is my all time summer jam band (there I go again with "jam"). They're kind of a grungy/indie/beachy sound, if that makes sense. Really cool and unique, and I love that it's female-fronted. "Our Deal" is just one of many magical, surfer-y grunge-y Best Coast songs.
2. My favorite song by the legendary band. A classic that never ever gets old and is the ultimate air-guitar song.
3. She & Him is most commonly referred to as "that band Zoey Deschanel is in" which totally turned me off since I sort of hate Zoey Deschanel. However, I couldn't help listening a year or so ago and found myself really enjoying many songs, much to my dismay. "Thieves" is a great introductory song if you're not familiar with the band.
4 & 5. I am having a MAJOR St. Vincent moment. Not only is she gorgeous, but this woman can sing. AND she plays like 8 instruments. I'm so jealous. It took me a while to really get into her music, but now that I am, I am so addicted. "Now, now" and "Surgeon" are so good, but "Cruel" is also awesome. You MUST listen.
6. If you haven't heard of Lana Del Rey, you live under a rock. I know some people hate her because she's contrived or whatever, but I love her voice and find her music really awesome and intriguing. Other than "Diet Mtn Dew," I recommend "Video Games" and "Summertime Sadness," although they are a bit dreary.
7. I've listened to a few Noah & the Whale songs other than "Five Years Time," and unfortunately they just don't measure up. "Five Years Time" will forever be my instant mood-brightening song.
8. Lastly, "Daylight" by Matt & Kim is a feel-good, upbeat song that's just perfect for the summer. I think it's the only Matt & Kim song I've heard, but I really want to check out more.

Hope I didn't bore you! Let me know if you like these types of posts in the comments below, and also, what are your May Jams?!

A New Addition to the Blog!

So, things on this ol' blog have been a bit monotonous lately. As much as we love sharing what's on our minds, sometimes we're so bogged down with life stuff that we can't come up with quality posts. As you all may know, we have a little sister, Zoe, who has shown up on the blog before, and since the two older sisters--aka Chianne and me--already write for this blog, why not have the little one do it too?
Every weekend--Saturday or Sunday, depending on our schedules--Zoe will be making a post about whatever's on her mind. I think it will be at the very least amusing (but it'll probably be pretty sweet; Zoe's got good taste for a ten year old.) It will definitely spice things up around here!
Without further ado...

Hi I am Zoe, I am so exited to become apart of this blog! I am in fourth grade, and a little surprised that my sisters let me help with the blog. I love dancing, reading, baking, animals and spending time with friends and family. One of my favorite blogs is the Dainty squid. I look forward to posting next week. Hope you guys enjoy!
